Soyoung


Ms. Soyoung is a pianist and educator based in Tempe, Arizona. She is from South Korea and began playing piano at age 5. She attended Peniel Art Middle School and Busan Art High School in South Korea. She received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Dong-A University in Busan, her hometown. She has earned a master’s degree from Lee University, where she studied under Dr. Jonathan (Joong Han) Jung with a full scholarship.

As a performer, she has achieved recognition in piano competitions, including winning the Grand prize at the 31st National Students Music Competition and Gold at the 15th Busan Duo Music Competition. Additionally, she won the Lee concerto competition twice (in 2019 and 2020) and performed with Lee orchestra conducted by Robert Bernhardt. She was honored to be a member of Pi Kappa Lambda (honor society) in 2021.

She believes that knowledge and relationship is the key for teaching. She also believes that true musical freedom is only possible through a healthy and efficient physical foundation. Her pedagogy emphasizes the ergonomics of the hand to prevent tension and injury. She empowers advanced students to master the most demanding literature with ease, clarity, and a rich, singing tone. With over 10 years of teaching experience, she offers students a diverse repertoire.
