Master Violin & Viola Instructor
Kate B. brings a wealth of experience and passion to her violin and viola lessons, where she emphasizes high standards for her students. She is dedicated to using a structured curriculum to ensure they develop strong technique, solid sight-reading skills, and a deep understanding of music fundamentals. Kate earned her Bachelor’s in Music from Arizona State University in 2011, studying under Dr. Katie McLin, and her Master’s in Music from the University of Texas in 2013, where she trained with Brian Lewis.
Kate has a distinguished performance background, including winning the Arizona state division of the Music Teacher’s National Association Competition in 2008 and being a finalist in both the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition (2010) and the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition (2012).
As a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra in 2012, Kate also served as a principal player and participated in prestigious music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and Indiana Summer Music Festival. She was the concertmaster for the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and performed with David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, in 2013.
During her Master’s studies, Kate received extensive training from members of the renowned Miro Quartet and participated in masterclasses with acclaimed groups like the Juilliard String Quartet and Tokyo String Quartet.
Inspired by Austin’s vibrant music scene, Kate expanded her musical horizons to include guitar, singing, and performing alternative styles in bands. Today, she’s an active singer-songwriter in the Phoenix area, performing with the Foster Family Band and the Max Knouse solo project.
Since joining the Music Maker Workshops family in 2018, Kate has shared her diverse expertise and love for music with her students, helping them grow their skills and confidence in a supportive and inspiring environment.
