Dr. Stephen White is an accomplished clarinetist, bass clarinetist, saxophonist, and music educator based in the Phoenix area. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance from Arizona State University, where he also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in clarinet and music theory. Dr. White currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Woodwind Methods at Grand Canyon University.

Professional Performance Experience

Dr. White is an active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. His professional performance experience brings a high level of artistry and real-world musicianship into every lesson.

As a founding member of the Freakwood Clarinet Quartet and the Aenea Reed Quintet, Dr. White has premiered works by composers Spencer Arias, Francisco de Alba, and Cornelius Boot. His performances often combine music with dance, spoken word, and other creative art forms.

Dr. White has extensive teaching experience at the university, private lesson, and clinic levels. He teaches students of all ages and experience levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. Each lesson focuses on developing excellent technique, strong musicianship, confident performance skills, and artistic expression.

Whether students are preparing for school band, honor band auditions, solo performances, competitions, college auditions, or simply learning for the enjoyment of music, Dr. White provides personalized instruction designed to help every student succeed.

Leadership & Music Education

In addition to teaching and performing, Dr. White serves on the International Clarinet Association’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Committee. He also serves as a peer reviewer for The Clarinet magazine. His work reflects a deep commitment to music education, performance excellence, and expanding access to the arts.
