Dr. Stephen White
Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Saxophone Instructor
Dr. Stephen White is a clarinetist, bass clarinetist, saxophonist, and educator based in Tempe, Arizona. They received their Doctorate of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance from Arizona State University, where they also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in clarinet and music theory. Currently they hold the position of Adjunct Professor of Woodwind Methods at Grand Canyon University. They are active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
A founding member of the Freakwood Clarinet Quartet and Aenea Reed Quintet, Stephen has premiered works by Spencer Arias, Francisco de Alba, and Cornelius Boot. Their collaborations often explore interdisciplinary connections between music, dance, and spoken word.
Stephen’s teaching experience spans collegiate instruction, private studios, and clinics, guiding students toward technical mastery and artistic expression. They serve on the International Clarinet Association’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Committee and is a peer reviewer for The Clarinet magazine. Their work integrates performance, pedagogy, and advocacy, with a focus on expanding access to the arts.
