Lead Rock Band Instructor
Devin serves as the Lead Rock Band Instructor at Music Maker Workshops, where he coaches student bands in teamwork, live performance, stage presence, and musicianship. He also created and continues to lead the studio’s annual Drum Competition at Cactus Jack’s, giving students an exciting opportunity to perform, challenge themselves, and celebrate their progress in a fun, supportive environment.
Professional Music Experience
Devin toured the East Coast as a drummer in a professional band for a year and a half. He also spent several years working as a roadie, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience in live music production and touring. His real-world experience helps students understand what it takes to perform confidently both on and off the stage.
Personalized Drum Lessons
With more than 15 years of private teaching experience, Devin creates lessons that combine fun, engaging activities with strong musical fundamentals. His patient, upbeat teaching style helps students build confidence while developing excellent technique, coordination, rhythm, and musicianship.
Known for his great sense of humor, Devin connects especially well with younger children and teenagers. He creates an encouraging environment where students enjoy learning while continuing to grow as musicians.
Teaching Philosophy
Devin believes there is no such thing as talent—only passion and time invested. He encourages every student to work hard, stay motivated, and enjoy the learning process. His goal is to help students discover that consistent practice and perseverance lead to lasting success.
Musical Training & Future Goals
Devin studied under David Hopson, an accomplished competitive jazz drummer who earned numerous competition titles throughout the 1980s. This strong technical foundation continues to influence Devin’s teaching today.
He is passionate about music education and hopes to teach music at the high school and university level in the future. At Music Maker Workshops, Devin inspires students to become confident performers while building the technical skills, creativity, and passion that will last a lifetime.
