Master Drum Instructor
David brings more than 15 years of drumming and percussion experience and has been teaching students for over a decade. He is passionate about helping students develop into confident, capable musicians through a structured and balanced approach to drum education.
David’s teaching is highly curriculum-focused, ensuring students build a strong foundation while progressing at a pace that matches their individual goals. He believes that mastering fundamentals is essential for long-term success and carefully guides students through proper technique, coordination, timing, and musical understanding. By focusing on both skill development and creativity, David helps students become well-rounded drummers.
Technical Training and Personalized Drum Lessons
David emphasizes the importance of control, including mastering volume dynamics, precision, and consistency, to help students create a polished and professional sound. His lessons focus on developing strong habits and making sure students do not miss important fundamentals as they advance.
Students learn essential drumming skills, including rudiments, hand and foot technique, four-way independence, rhythm, reading music and charts, tuning, improvisation, and performance skills. David adapts his instruction for beginners through advanced students, providing clear goals and a supportive environment where students can grow with confidence.
Education and Musical Background
David began his musical journey with the alto saxophone at age 10 and played through college. His passion for drums led him to begin playing at age 16, where he quickly developed his skills through the Dobson High School all-state band and marching band programs. These experiences strengthened his technique, discipline, and mastery of percussion fundamentals.
He also studied with renowned percussionist Bruce Weitz. In college, David expanded his musical knowledge by studying percussion, earning an Associate’s degree in Audio Engineering, and exploring the music business. His experience performing and recording across many musical styles allows him to bring valuable real-world knowledge into his lessons.
A Dedicated Member of Music Maker Workshops
David has been part of the Music Maker Workshops family since fall 2015. Known for his patient and organized teaching style, he helps students develop strong musical foundations while encouraging creativity and enjoyment.
Whether a student is beginning their first drum lessons or working toward advanced performance goals, David provides the structure, guidance, and expertise needed to help every student become a confident and versatile drummer.
