Allison is a passionate piano instructor who brings a unique blend of classical training, jazz experience, and world music knowledge into her lessons. She teaches students of all ages and ability levels, including children, teens, and adults.
Allison believes every student has their own musical path. She enjoys helping students discover the styles, goals, and learning approaches that inspire them most. Whether a student is working toward advanced performance goals or learning piano for personal enjoyment, Allison creates lessons that are engaging, supportive, and personalized.
A Lifelong Journey in Music
Allison began studying piano at age seven in Cleveland, Ohio. She started with classical piano training, but her musical world expanded when she joined her middle school jazz band. Through jazz, she discovered the excitement of improvisation and the creativity that comes from exploring different styles.
She later earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, where she continued her classical studies while developing her jazz skills. Allison went on to earn a Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology, expanding her understanding of music from around the world.
Her graduate studies introduced her to many global musical traditions, including Japanese taiko drumming, African dance and drumming, and Balinese gamelan. These experiences shaped her understanding of music as a diverse and creative form of expression.

Allison creates lessons that are tailored to each student’s interests, goals, and learning style. She works with beginners who are building their first musical skills, as well as advanced students who want to pursue higher levels of performance.
For students seeking performance opportunities, Allison provides thorough preparation for piano competitions, recitals, auditions, and other musical goals. She focuses on developing strong technique, musicianship, confidence, and performance skills.
At the same time, Allison understands that music should also be fun and inspiring. She can customize lessons around popular music, creative exploration, and student interests while still building important piano foundations.
Experienced Teacher and Music Educator
Before moving to Arizona, Allison operated a private piano studio in Ohio, teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. She loved helping students explore music in a way that matched their interests and goals.
In addition to private teaching, Allison served as a World Music Professor at Bowling Green State University. This experience strengthened her ability to share music from many cultures and connect with students through different musical perspectives.
Exploring Music Around the World
After moving to Arizona, Allison was selected for a year-and-a-half fellowship program in Hawaii, where she studied taiko with world-renowned taiko artist Kenny Endo.
Her diverse musical experiences continue to influence her teaching today. Allison brings curiosity, creativity, and encouragement into every lesson as she helps students find their own place in the world of music.
