Master Violin & Viola Instructor
Kate B. brings extensive experience and passion to her violin and viola lessons at Music Maker Workshops. She believes in setting high standards while creating a supportive environment where students can grow with confidence.
Kate uses a structured curriculum to help students develop strong technique, solid sight-reading skills, and a deep understanding of music fundamentals. Her goal is to help each student build a strong foundation while developing independence, musical expression, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Education and Musical Training
Kate earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music from Arizona State University in 2011, where she studied under Dr. Katie McLin. She continued her studies at the University of Texas, earning her Master’s degree in Music in 2013 while training with Brian Lewis.
During her graduate studies, Kate received advanced instruction from members of the renowned Miró Quartet and participated in masterclasses with acclaimed ensembles, including the Juilliard String Quartet and Tokyo String Quartet.
Award-Winning Performer and Orchestral Experience
Kate has an impressive performance background as both a soloist and orchestral musician. In 2008, she won the Arizona state division of the Music Teachers National Association Competition. She was also a finalist in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition (2010) and the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition (2012).
In 2012, Kate performed as a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra, served as a principal player, and participated in prestigious music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and Indiana Summer Music Festival. She also served as concertmaster for the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra and performed with David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Expanding Musical Creativity
While classically trained, Kate has continued to explore a wide range of musical styles. Inspired by Austin’s vibrant music scene, she expanded her musical experience through guitar, singing, and alternative music performance.
Today, Kate is an active singer-songwriter in the Phoenix area. She performs with the Foster Family Band and the Max Knouse solo project, bringing her diverse musical experiences into her teaching.
A Dedicated Music Maker Workshops Instructor
Since joining the Music Maker Workshops family in 2018, Kate has shared her knowledge, creativity, and passion for music with students of all ages. She helps students develop strong technical skills while encouraging confidence, creativity, and a genuine love for making music.
Through thoughtful instruction and real-world performance experience, Kate guides students toward becoming well-rounded and expressive musicians.
