Piano Instructor

Allison began studying piano at age 7 in Cleveland, Ohio. Trained in classical piano, she discovered her love of other styles when she joined her middle school jazz band and experienced improvisation for the first time. She went on to get a Bachelor of Music in piano performance, focusing on classical and continuing her jazz studies. She then earned a Masters in Ethnomusicology, continuing to study piano but also expanding her understanding of music around the world, including Japanese taiko drumming, African Dance/Drumming, and Balinese Gamelan. She ran a private piano studio in Ohio and loved teaching students of all ages and interests, always striving to help students find the musical styles and teaching tools that work best for them. At the same time, she also worked as a world music professor at Bowling Green State University. After she moved west to Arizona, she was honored to be selected to spend a year and half in a fellowship program studying taiko in Hawaii with world-renowned taiko artist Kenny Endo. She is excited to return to piano teaching and encourage her students to find their place in the world of music.
