Rock Band Teacher

Growing up, my parents had me take piano lessons. I was decent, but I didn’t love it. Then one day I heard Soundgarden’s Rusty Cage on the radio. I heard Green Day’s Basketcase on a classmate’s walkman. That was 25 years ago, and I’ve been playing guitar religiously ever since. In addition to teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele, I helped create and run our awesome Rock Band program. I’ve also written, recorded, and performed music for TV shows such as Sprinkler’s Clubhouse, a local kids morning show. Getting good takes hard work, but it should also be fun. I encourage my students to bring in music that they like and that they want to learn how to play. Scales, chord progressions, and arpeggios make a lot more sense when you can hear them in a song you enjoy. Mike has been an educator at Music Makers since fall 2009.
